Letter to my 100 year old self. What in the heck were you thinking? Did you think that everything you did when you were younger wouldn’t have an effect? Here you sit not able to move any part of your body without pain.
Remember when you were stacking those hay bales and thought it was so much fun? Well, I’ll bet you wish you had done something else that day. What about all those bucking horses? They shook your head loose. Then, they ended up on top of you on the ground. That was sure fun. I know, I know, it seemed like fun at the time.
There are so many things you could’ve done differently without the pain. But who would you be if you did? You wouldn’t be as tough as you are. You wouldn’t be as strong as you are. And you wouldn’t have had the experiences you had that made you who you are.
Then there is when you were doing construction lifting 3″ pipe and carrying up flights of stairs. That was fun! Being outdoors was better, but it seems the only jobs that are outside are physically demanding. Something about you makes me think that you would not fit in an inside office job for very long.
Did you not understand that in your 40s you don’t go out and start a firefighting carrier. Wild-land firefighting at that. Yes, that was fun, exciting, and a huge challenge, and you did it. Unfortunately, the body does not have the same idea about fun as you do.
Well, I’m not too far behind you so I guess I’ll see you when I get there.
Yours Truly, Me
